  2.                           Introduction
  3.  
  4. The Print Label program helps you print simple labels on your
  5. printer (dot matrix recommended).  The program completely
  6. bypasses windows and prints directly to the hardware.  You can
  7. specify how many labels you want, an incremental counter (for a
  8. serial/asset number), the number of lines between labels, number
  9. of lines per label, etc.  The label always prints in the printers
  10. current font and size.

  12. You are prompted for the contents of the label and other
  13. information about the output format.  You may also indicate how
  14. many labels you want to print and the starting number for a
  15. sequential counter.

  17. Anywhere you want to print the current counter number simple
  18. include the two characters ^C (caret and capital C).  This string
  19. will be replaced by the current counter number (which is
  20. incremented between each label).

  22.                      Print Label Evaluation
  23. You are granted a 15 day evaluation period to try Print Label. 
  24. If you use it after this evaluation period you must register it. 
  25. Please see the on-line help system for details about the license
  26. agreement and  the registration process.
  27.                       Initial Installation
  28.  
  29. This program is provided in one of two forms.  It is either part
  30. of the TARDIS Applications diskette or can be downloaded
  31. individually from CompuServe or other BBS systems.
  32.  
  33. Diskette
  34. If the program is provided on diskette and you have used the
  35. diskette's install program, the software has already been
  36. installed and program manager icons created.  You can begin using
  37. it immediately.  Please see the section "Running for the first
  38. time."

  40. Download
  41. If you downloaded this file you should follow the instructions
  42. below.   The program is provided as a self-extracting executable
  43. file.  Just follow the instructions below to install the program
  44. on your hard drive.  You MUST already have a copy of the Visual
  45. Basic 3.0 runtime DLL VBRUN300.DLL.  It must be installed in your
  46. Windows \SYSTEM directory.  If you do not have this file you can
  47. download it from the Microsoft Visual Basic forum on CompuServe. 
  48. This file is not included with Print Label.

  50.    1.Choose a drive and directory on which you want to install
  51.      Print Label.  If the directory does not exist you must
  52.      create it now.
  53.    2.Copy the Print Label self extracting executable (PLAB.EXE)
  54.      into the directory.
  55.    3.Make a backup of this file for safe keeping.  You will
  56.      delete this file later.
  57.    4.Change to the Print Label directory.
  58.    5.Type the command PLAB.  This uncompresses the files into the
  59.      current directory.
  60.    6.Delete the file PLAB.EXE.  It is no longer used.  Make sure
  61.      you make a backup per step 3 above.
  62.    7.Check the directory for any files with a .DLL or .VBX
  63.      extension.  If any files matching this description exist
  64.      they should be copied to your Windows \SYSTEM directory and
  65.      then deleted from the Print Label directory.
  66.    8.Create a Program Manager icon for Print Label and link it to
  67.      the EXE file PRTLAB.EXE.
  68.    9.Please see the section "Running for the first time."
  69.                    Running for the First Time
  70.    1.Start the program by double clicking the new Print Label
  71.      icon in Program Manager.
  72.    2.Since this is the first time you are running this program
  73.      you are prompted for your Company Name, Your Name, Phone
  74.      Number, and optionally your CIS ID (not password).  This
  75.      information is saved for future reference.  The serial
  76.      number is assigned and the registration reminder screen
  77.      displays.  (This screen will never display after you
  78.      register the program).
  79.    3.To access the on-line help system (which contains important
  80.      information about the operation and license agreement  for
  81.      Print Label), click on the "About TARDIS" icon, and then
  82.      click on the question mark icon.
  83.    4.A file with the .REG extension is created in the same
  84.      directory as Print Label.  This file contains your name and
  85.      phone number and is used during the registration process. 
  86.      It contains important information and should not be deleted.
  87.    5.Installation is complete.
